Jean-Baptiste Du Hamel (11/6/1623-1706/8?) seems a likely candidate for
this clergyman who stands in front of the group of scientists. As secretary
of the newly formed Académie and chaplain of the king, he seems the right
person for this location in the painting. He seems also to have the right
age (43) at the time of the event.
