The different types of publications
Article/ letter to the editor An article or letter to the editor published in printed or electronic journal.
Congress publication An article from a congress or symposium published in:
1) a (special edition of a) journal, or
2) in published proceedings
Book review A review of a scientific book, published in a scientific journal.
Part of a book/ chapter A contribution to an edited book.
Book Author of a non-edited book, published by a professional publisher.
Internal report A internal report is published by CML, and usually discusses results from commissioned research.
External report A external report discusses results form commissioned reseach and is published by its commissioner.
Published inaugural speech The published text of an inaugural speech.
Doctoral thesis Publication upon which one's doctoral degree is received
Book editorial The editor of a book. Written chapters in this book will be registered seperately under "part of a book/chapter."
Journal editorship An editorship of a (special edition volume of a) scientific journal.

Please note: 
As a rule of thumb, publications may be entered in METIS if they are both 
published and publicly accessible.

This rules out the following publications:
- non-published abstracts/ handouts from presentations
- non-published full papers
- poster presentations
- newspaper articles
- memberships of discussion groups, working groups, etc.
